What to Wear: Sicilian Summer Chic

Think bright, fun colors and patterns. Short or long dresses both work beautifully, flowing and lightweight so you stay cool in the summer heat. Mediterranean-inspired prints are always a good call. Gentlemen, light jackets over dress pants or linen suits. Elegant, elevated, and relaxed.

Transportation

Transportation will be provided both ways. Details to follow.

Where to Stay

Hotels

Below is a list of hotels we recommend, though villas and Airbnbs are also available and can be a cost-efficient option. We encourage everyone to stay as close to the city center as possible, since it is the most central to the events and transportation and by far the easiest for getting around the weekend. There are also options right on the beach, though those come with more transportation logistics to get to and from town.

FAQs

We want travel to be seamless. Any questions at all, please reach out.

Do I need a passport?
Yes, US travelers will need a valid passport for the trip.
Do I need a visa?
US and UK citizens don't need a traditional visa for stays under 90 days. Europe's new ETIAS authorization is expected to be required by 2027, but it's just a quick online application, not a visa. We'll send a reminder and link closer to the date.
How far in advance should I book flights?
Flight bookings open soon. Turn on Google Flights tracking and price alerts for the route in the meantime. Best practice is to book around six to nine months out. Fly into Catania (CTA), the closest airport to Taormina.
How do I get there from the US?
JFK is the only U.S. airport with a nonstop flight to Catania. Everyone flying from elsewhere in the US will connect through a major European city like Rome or London before continuing on to Catania (CTA), the closest airport, about an hour from Taormina. Happy to help you sort out the routing.
How do I get from the airport to Taormina?
Catania is about an hour away by car. A taxi, private transfer or rental car all work well. There is also a direct airport bus to Taormina.
What is the time difference?
Sicily is six hours ahead of the East Coast and nine ahead of the West Coast.
Will my phone work?
Ask your carrier about an international plan, or pick up an eSIM before you fly. Most of us will use WhatsApp to text and call over wifi for free.
Will my cards work, and how do I get euros?
Let your bank know you are traveling, and bring a card with no foreign-transaction fee. Amex is only accepted at about half of places, so bring a Visa or Mastercard as backup. Take euros out ahead of time to avoid fees.
Do I need a plug adapter?
Yes. Italy uses Type F and L outlets, so bring a European adapter. Most phone and laptop chargers already handle the voltage, only the plug shape changes.
Do people speak English?
Yes, widely in Taormina. A few Italian phrases like "grazie" and "buongiorno" go a long way and are always appreciated.
Are children invited?
We love your little ones, but we have decided to keep this an adults-only celebration, with the exception of immediate family.
What is the dress code?
Each event has its own dress code listed in the schedule above.
